Sweet Antique Character German Bisque Baby Doll Hertel, Schwab & Company #152
For your consideration is this antique German bisque character baby doll in. Very good condition, on the original body with the original wig, pate and eyes. The baby is marked on the back of the head 152, attributed to. Hertel, Schwab and Company. And it is 16 inches tall. There may be more markings under the hair of the wig. The wig is still partially attached at the back and its an attractive shade. The blown glass antique eyes are pretty light blue with threading and they are on the original rocker and work well. I used a flashlight on the inside of the head and there are no cracks, chips or repairs. The face has a beautiful complexion from the older fine bisque with blushing on the cheeks and cute character modeling. He has the original porcelain teeth and this version was made with several teeth and one is missing, buts its hard to tell. The mouth has a molded tongue and is painted with an outline detail. The baby has a poseable socket head on a composition body. The body is in very good condition with some of the typical aging as shown and no apparent repairs. His body has a few spots that I think is from aging of the glaze and minor. It has the older arm style with a bend at the elbow. The fingers are all present and the thumbs have some scuffing but are not broken off. The red accent painting is still seen vividly on the finger and toe nails. He is strung fine, has no wobbly head and looks adorable on display. Some of the clothes may be original, and the old wool bonnet was added. The nightgown has cute blue embroidering that looks great with the blue accenting on the old bonnet. The nightgown has some scattered spotting and is a light shade of pink. There is also an old slip and bloomers that tie at the waist with yarn, which gives the body a nice full feel. Included are old vinyl baby shoes marked Dolshoe on the soles which surprisingly have the original laces. No bad odors and this doll comes from quality storage in a smoke free, pet free collection.
