Arthur Schoenau & Hoffmeister Doll, 28 tall child doll with bisque socket head, jointed composition body, wigged, rounded blue sleeping eyes with lashes, painted brows, and open mouth with teeth. Her head is in excellent condition with no cracks or crazing. The facial paint is still vibrant with crisp details. Though brittle, her wig is still full bodied and partially attached. While it was likely she originally had corkscrew curls, the hair is now fairly straight and falling to her shoulders. She even has a few grays from a long and adventure filled life. Her body is in overall good condition with patches of color fading, areas of paint wear, and evidence of some touch ups. Along with random markings of time there is a brownish-red substance the consistency of dried ketchup on her legs. It is removable with very patient and gentle cleaning techniques. There is notable cracking to the heel of her left foot and toes of her right foot. She comes dressed in well worn, previously pink full length dobby cloth dress. And silken socks / stockings. This beautiful doll has professionally repaired shoulder plate, yet her head is in great condition, with one spot of paint rubs. The repair to the shoulder head is almost invisible. The body is probably a later replacement. It is in good condition. The shoes and the stockings are removable, as well as the underwear. The legs are cloth. Lower arms are wooden. They have some imperfections. Gorgeous dress is not new, it looks old, but in good condition with just possible light wear. It is well doe and fits the doll perfectly. 18 Simon & Halbig. Made in Germany – 1890s. Bisque Head / Composition Body – Stands Approx. 18″ Tall – Marked: “SH 1079-8 DEP. ” This sweetheart is a lovely 18″ Simon & Halbig 1079 “Dolly Face” from the early-to-mid 1890s. Her painting is nicely done. She has brown set eyes and a curly light-brown human hair wig. She is wearing a very pretty deep purple velvet drop-waist dress with velvet sash and mother-of-pearl buckle. A lace ruffle around neck and cuffs, and earrings in her pierced ears, complete the elegant look. Handmade lace socks and high two-tone buttons shoes add a lovely touch to her outfit. And, of course, she comes with her little hand-woven basket with faux purple flowers. Beautiful antique condition — from a non-smoking environment. No issues found with the bisque after careful examination. The composition body is in good condition with some age cracks and chipping. The varnish on it has darkened and yellowed due to age but still displays nicely. As mentioned, she has set eyes. As you’ll often see with old blown-glass eyes, the brown irises are very slightly different in size from each other, which you can see on close examination. See the closeup of her face. But she is ever-so-lovable for her uniqueness! IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE – for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of “hair” lashes on bisque heads, not-so-tight stringing, etc. (2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors – for example: reset eyes in most cases! , repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc. Any MAJOR issues — hairline crack, total repaint, etc. – would be itemized above, but these normal age/conservation details are not. 18 Simon & Halbig. Made in Germany – 1890s. Bisque Head / Composition Body – Stands Approx. 18″ Tall – Marked: “SH 1079-8 DEP. ” This sweetheart is a lovely 18″ Simon & Halbig 1079 “Dolly Face” from the early-to-mid 1890s. Her painting is nicely done. She has brown set eyes and a curly light-brown human hair wig. She is wearing a very pretty deep purple velvet drop-waist dress with velvet sash and mother-of-pearl buckle. A lace ruffle around neck and cuffs, and earrings in her pierced ears, complete the elegant look. Handmade lace socks and high two-tone buttons shoes add a lovely touch to her outfit. And, of course, she comes with her little hand-woven basket with faux purple flowers. Beautiful antique condition — from a non-smoking environment. No issues found with the bisque after careful examination. The composition body is in good condition with some age cracks and chipping. The varnish on it has darkened and yellowed due to age but still displays nicely. As mentioned, she has set eyes. As you’ll often see with old blown-glass eyes, the brown irises are very slightly different in size from each other, which you can see on close examination. See the closeup of her face. But she is ever-so-lovable for her uniqueness! IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE – for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of “hair” lashes on bisque heads, not-so-tight stringing, etc. (2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors – for example: reset eyes in most cases! , repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc. Any MAJOR issues — hairline crack, total repaint, etc. – would be itemized above, but these normal age/conservation details are not.
