10 Candy Container Bisque. Russian, Polish costume Antique
Such a deluxe candy container! This ethnic girl, perhaps Russian or Polish, stands atop a fabric topped box that when opened would have held a sweet treat for a very fortunate child! This bisque doll with wood torso and wooden arms and legs is made like the German mechanicals that were coming out of Sonnenburg, Germany from the late 1800′s to early 1900′s. I especially like her painted blue shoes with red straps! Her socket head is by Schoenhau and Hoffmeister, whose heads were used on so many mechanical toys and candy containers. Her silk skirt is shredding, but still lovely. It would be an easy fix if you decided to replace it. She has a white blouse, blue vest, painted shoes, blue glass eyes and original mohair wig in a long braid. Her antique basket and candy box bottom have been added. This is a large candy container, with a pretty German doll, that stands out in a collection! Thank you for your interest and please see the other fascinating things coming out of my collection! Fine Antique RUSSIAN BISQUE DOLL Soviet Union USSR CCCP German KR 11 1930s
Fine Antique/Vintage 11 RUSSIAN BISQUE DOLL. 1930s (using a German KR mold). Made in Soviet Union USSR Communist Russia. Lovely & hard to find Russian young lady doll in dress of Ryazan District. Bisque-fired terra cotta socket head (using an older German Kammer & Reinhart dolly-face mold), j. Blue glass sleep eyes, open mouth with teeth, blonde flax hair in a braid coiled around the top. Wearing a detailed ethnic costume: off-wht homespun cotton overdress with red bodice, sleeve-bands & cuffs with navy piping trim, over-long sleeves, attached ornate woven multicolor-striped apron with gold fringed edging; brown/wht stripe tunic underneath with red floral band at hem; navy blue wool skirt with lt blue diagonal lines print, edged w/red; replaced wht cotton pantaloons with lace edge (somewhat innapropriate but correct timewise); wht stockings with bast (wickerwork) shoes that lace up her calves. Brown cotton headscarf with floral print. 2 chokers: 1-amber glass & 1-tan/brown wooden beads. These dolls are believed to have been made in the Duneav Factory , one of the doll & toy making towns around St. Petersburg, Russia in the 1920s-30s. They are not easy to find. She has been restrung & holds a pose well. Her dress is somewhat soiled & faded esp. I find no damage to the head. Please look closely at the photos & zoom in–these are part of her condition report. Handsome & hard to find Russian young male doll in winter Cossack type dress. Bisque-fired terra cotta socket head (using an older German Kammer & Reinhart dolly-face mold), j. Blue glass sleep eyes, multi-stroke brows, open mouth with teeth, blonde flax hair in a page boy style. Wearing a detailed ethnic/Cossac costume: beige flannel great-coat with over-long sleeves ending in tan silk with orange/brown geometric print cuffs & navy w/red stripe facing. Navy/yellow/blue stripe cotton belt wound around several times & knotted; dk red Cossack style hat with navy edging; wht cotton tunic shirt with brown dots; brown/tan animal print knickers; brown leg coverings; bast (wickerwork) shoes which lace up his calves. These dolls are believed to have been made in the Duneav Factory , one of the doll & toy making towns around St. Petersburg, Russia in the 1920s-30s. They are not easy to find.
